These Are Spiritual Issues

By Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

So, it has come to this.

Five pastors were ordered by the openly lesbian mayor of Houston, Annise Parker, to turn over their sermon notes, or at least the notes and emails they used when the opposed a so-called “Bathroom Ordinance” that would allow men to use women’s bathrooms. The mayor claimed that they were using their pulpits for political activity.

Obviously, this is an incredible overreach intended to intimidate pastors who refuse to bow to the homosexual agenda for America, which includes not just same-sex marriage but an attack against creation itself by destroying gender identity altogether. Certainly this …

Death is Swallowed up in Victory

By Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Last weekend Rebecca and I were at The Cove, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Retreat and Ministry Center. I spoke to the doctors and nurses involved in World Medical Mission, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse under the leadership of Franklin Graham. We were impressed with the hundreds of volunteers who, at their own expense, serve in clinics all over the world in the most primitive conditions. We felt as if we were in the presence of heroes, and indeed we were.

One of those present at the meetings was Dr. Kent Brantley, who contracted Ebola at the Clinic in Liberia …

Dr. Lutzer Talks About Scripture Memory

By Moody Church Media

Dr. Lutzer was recently interviewed by Linda Weddle on the topic of scipture memory. A few highlights from the article are below, and be sure to check out the entire interview at kidzmatter.com.

I understand you memorized a lot of Scripture as a child. Can you tell us about that?

Yes, I did memorize a great deal of Scripture when I was younger. I promised myself that I would not graduate from Bible college unless I could quote the Book of John and by God’s grace I achieved that. The Christmas before graduation I quoted the entire book in …

Songs in the Night Recording Session

By Moody Church Media

On Monday and Tuesday this week, Dr. Lutzer and the Songs in the Night crew recorded the next batch of radio programs. Over two days the team completed over 90 radio programs which will begin airing in January and will continue through the end of 2016.

During the recording session, The Moody Church's sanctuary is filled with the sound of the pipe organ played by John Innes. Above is a video of John playing the Songs in the Night theme song.

Dr. Lutzer recordingThe recording process begins with Dr. Lutzer's Sunday morning sermons. When a series of sermons is completed, the best …

Who Can We Call a Saint?

By Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

If you are a member of the Catholic Church you are welcome among us. About 20% of all of our members were raised in the Catholic Church.  However, the canonization of two popes this past week does give me an opportunity to point out one of several major differences between us and Roman Catholicism.

The Bible clearly and repeatedly teaches that all believers in Christ are “saints” (1 Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1 etc). But in the early centuries when the idea arose that salvation was not a free gift given to those who believe the Gospel, but rather …

Thoughts for the Quiet Hour - December 29

She (Hannah) . . . prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore . . . she spake in her heart. —1 Samuel 1:10, 13

For real business at the mercy-seat give me a home-made prayer, a prayer that comes out of the depths of my heart, not because I invented it, but because God the Holy Ghost, put it there, and gave it such living force that I could not help letting it out. Though your words are broken, and your sentences disconnected, if your desires are earnest, if they are like coals of …

Quiet Hour - Day 362

Thoughts for the Quiet Hour - December 28

The friendship of the world is enmity with God. —James 4:4

It is like the ivy with the oak. The ivy may give the oak a grand, beautiful appearance, but all the while it is feeding on its vitals. Are we compromising with the enemies of God? Are we being embraced by the world by its honors, its pleasures, its applause? This may add to us in the world's estimation, but our strength becomes lost. —Denham Smith
