The Sun Will Shine Again

Do not disbelieve, but believe. John 20:27

D.L. MOODY
People say, “If I could only get rid of these doubts and fears, I think I would be ready to work.”
Go to work and these doubts will disappear. There is work to be done. Life is short at the longest, so let us be about our Master’s business. While you are engaged in His work, these doubts will not assail you so much. I believe any Christian would have doubts in less than six months if he did nothing.

ERWIN LUTZER
When fears and doubts assail us, we are tempted to isolate ourselves from the resources God has given us, and try to go it alone. Spiritually speaking, this is not healthy. God has given us at least three resources to help us during dark times.
First, there are the members of the body of Jesus Christ. If you are struggling with doubt or fear, it’s not enough to hear Christian friends say, “We’ll pray for you.” No. Get down on your knees with them. Let them bear your burdens, let them go to God on your behalf (Gal. 6:2). God gives us the body of Christ when we can’t get through on our own.
Second, cleave to God’s Word. We need to return to God’s promises which assure us of His presence by His Spirit. Meditate upon Romans 8:31–39, one of many examples of His promises.
Finally, give your doubts to God; bring them to Him in all honesty. God welcomes honest doubters. He met Thomas who doubted the resurrection (John 20:24–29). He praised John the Baptist’s greatness, even though John doubted whether Jesus was the Messiah (Luke 7:19–23). He gives honest doubters acceptance and the reality of His presence.
So, go to work to serve God!

PRAYER
Father, may I never doubt in the darkness what I have learned in the light. Give me the assurance of your presence and the truth of your promises!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
What resources has God given to the believer to deal with fear and doubt in their lives?

How faithful are you at using these resources in times of difficulty?
