Reformation And Revival

The First Great Awakening

Erwin W. Lutzer | September 29, 1991

Selected highlights from this sermon

The situation in the northeastern part of the United States was spiritually declining. The generations that followed the Puritans were not as fervent as their forbearers and the churches began to stagnate. God dramatically intervened, using the preaching of men like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield. The knowledge of sin increased moved people to repentance. The First Great Awakening was an extraordinary example of God’s work in our country’s history.
