The Anabaptist Controversy

Erwin W. Lutzer | None

Selected highlights from this sermon

Throughout church history, the issue of infant baptism has been a divisive subject. It arose into normalcy as a uniting force in a Christianized empire during the time of Constantine. Everyone who was baptized as an infant was supposedly a Christian and a citizen of the empire.

But the Scriptures do not advocate or prescribe infant baptism. The Anabaptists opposed infant baptism, insisting that one must personally believe in Christ before being baptized.
