President of My Heart

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. John 3:8

D.L. MOODY
You might just as well tell me there is no such thing as wind, as tell me there is no such thing as a man being born of the Spirit. I have felt the Spirit of God working in my heart just as really and as truly as I have felt the wind blowing in my face. I cannot reason it out. There are a great many things I cannot reason out, but which I believe. I never could reason out the creation. I can see the world, but I cannot tell how God made it out of nothing. But every man will admit there was a creative power.

ERWIN LUTZER
Moody is emphasizing that the Holy Spirit not only regenerates us, but also “bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16). The Scripture makes it very clear that, if you are a believer in Jesus, God resides within you by the Holy Spirit. And He is going to birth holiness within us; He’s there to prompt us toward holiness and put us on a different trajectory. The Spirit has been given not just to be resident, but to be president and lead us all the way to our heavenly home.
Jesus described the gift of the Spirit as one who is a comforter, an advocate, a helper (John 14:16, 26). In His body, Jesus could only be in one place at one time but, by His Spirit, He can be with us and in us, regardless of where we are geographically. All believers are united in one body, and this unity should be displayed for the world to see.
Confusion about the work of the Spirit has often made believers wary of the work of the Spirit in our lives. But let us develop a relationship with this Friend that Jesus promised to all who believe. May we know the Spirit, enjoy the Spirit, and depend upon the Spirit for all things.

PRAYER
Father, today, I pray that the Holy Spirit will transform me and give me assurance.
