The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29
D.L. MOODY
There are many things which were dark and mysterious to me five years ago, on which I have since had a flood of light; and I expect to be finding out something fresh about God throughout eternity.
I make a point of not discussing disputed passages of Scripture. An old divine has said that some people, if they want to eat fish, commence by picking the bones. I leave such things till I have light on them. I am not bound to explain what I do not comprehend. “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever;” and these I take and eat and feed upon in order to get spiritual strength.
ERWIN LUTZER
I’ve walked with God for many years and there are still so many mysteries about Him that I don’t understand. The challenge for us is to live up to what we do understand. The disciples were beginning to feel abandoned when Jesus kept telling them, “I’m going to go away, I’m going to leave you.” So, Jesus had to give them some reassurance. He said, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper” (John 14:16). He is referring to the coming of the Holy Spirit. It is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit to substitute for the physical presence of Jesus in our lives.
Faced with the mysteries of God, we turn to Christ and know that the Holy Spirit is our Helper, our companion, and teacher. He illuminates God’s Word for us. We are given enough truth to bring transformation. We read that we received the Spirit, “that we might understand the things freely given us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12). We do not know God fully, but we do know Him truly.
