Dr. Erwin Lutzer’s popular radio ministry Running to Win is expanding internationally as it deepens its longtime collaboration with TWR.
In a move that is groundbreaking for Lutzer and the Moody Church Media ministry he leads, TWR (Trans World Radio) will translate and culturally contextualize Running to Win into Spanish and then rerecord the program using a native speaker. The 15-minute program, which runs five days a week, will be broadcast from the TWR transmitter on the island of Bonaire to countries such as Cuba and Venezuela and will be distributed to local stations across Latin America.
TWR broadcasts Running to Win in English to at least 16 countries, but the new venture marks the first time that the two ministries –collaborators for 18 years –have linked up on a translation project. And it marks the first time the program has been broadcast across Latin America. A Moody spokesman said Spanish was chosen for this major outreach because it is among the most widely used languages in the world, enabling the ministry to “speak into many lives.”
Drawing on the program’s running theme, Lutzer said, “We are expanding into Spanish for one simple reason: We want our Spanish-speaking friends to know Christ and join us as we learn to serve him faithfully, all the way to the finish line.”
Production of the Spanish version of Running to Win is already underway in Venezuela and is expected to begin airing in about four months – in other words, by late summer 2016. The Spanish version also will be available on TWR’s Web portal of Christian media content, TWR360, where Moody Church sermons also can be streamed in English.
Ralf Stores, TWR’s U.S. director of media development and services, said, “As the number of Spanish speakers continues to grow, not only in the U.S. but also worldwide, Dr. Lutzer’s program in Spanish will have the potential to reach millions of new listeners who otherwise would not have been able to benefit from his solid teaching program.”
The translated program also will be distributed to Spanish stations in the United States that request it, a TWR spokesman said.
