Christ In The Old Testament

The Statue Of Liberty

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe | July 6, 1975

Selected highlights from this sermon

In the United States, we experience liberty today because someone died. As Christians, we also experience freedom from death because Jesus died for us. At Passover, the Israelites were protected from death by the blood of a lamb. Christians are protected by the blood of Jesus.

Spiritually, we were born into death, bondage, and decay. But the blood of the Lamb changes everything.

Is Jesus Christ a lamb, the lamb, or your lamb?

Transcripts for Dr. Wiersbe's sermons are forthcoming. Below is an outline of his message.

Liberty does not come for free.

We experience liberty today because someone died.

Jesus is the sacrificial lamb.

The lamb slain at Passover is a picture of Jesus.

Because of His sacrifice, we experience the blessings of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

  • Life
    • The God of the mountains is the same God in the valleys.
    • This world is monotonous, dry, and worshipping false gods.
    • The firstborns of the Israelites were protected by the blood of the lamb.
    • This is a picture of spiritual life.
    • God rejects our first birth in sin, but because of Jesus’ sacrifice we don’t have to die.
    • The Lamb was chosen, examined, and slain.
  • Liberty
    • The greatest burden people are carrying is the burden of sin.
    • There’s power in the blood of the Lamb.
  • Happiness
    • Israel had no future in Egypt.
    • We have no future in this world.
    • The only future we can have is in Jesus Christ.
    • The Christian’s life has a great future ahead of it.
    • The same Lamb who died for you sustains you.
    • Have you forgotten how bitter it was when you were living in sin?
    • The best is yet to come.

Spiritually, we were born into death, bondage, and decay.
