Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Isaiah 55:1
D.L. MOODY
I pity those people who are all the time looking to see what they will have to give up. God wants to bestow His marvelous grace on His people, and there is not a soul who has believed on Jesus for whom God has not an abundance of grace in store.
What would you say of a man dying of thirst on the banks of a beautiful river with the stream flowing past his feet? You would think he was mad! The river of God’s grace flows on without ceasing; why should we not partake of it, and go on our way rejoicing?
ERWIN LUTZER
Centuries ago, Blaise Pascal, a French theologian, wrote about our inborn desire to find hope and meaning, and concluded, “the infinite abyss can only be filled by an infinite and immutable object, that is to say, only by God Himself.”
When Jesus was at the Feast of Tabernacles, He watched the people bringing jugs of water as a part of their prescribed ritual, yet, they were missing the deeper meaning of their worship. Hear Him, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” (John 7:37–38).
Just as water is needed for physical life, so living water is needed for spiritual life. We may come for an initial drink, but then we come again and again to partake of God’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit!
PRAYER
