I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. And I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his father’s house. Isaiah 22:22–24
D.L. MOODY
There is one nail fastened in a sure place; and on it hang all the pitchers and all the cups. “Oh,” says one little cup, “I am so small and so black, suppose I were to drop!” “Oh,” says pitcher, “there is no fear of you; but I am so heavy, so very weighty, suppose I were to drop!” And a little cup says, “Oh, if I were only like the gold cup there, I should never fear falling.” But the gold cup answers, “It is not because I am a gold cup that I keep up, but because I hang upon the nail.”
ERWIN LUTZER
Christ is the nail that can hold up the greatest of sinners; He is also the one with the keys who determines the destiny of all who stand before Him for judgment.
While on a trip to Europe, my wife and I waited at a huge door in a castle. We could have tried to look through the keyhole or kick down the door. But then a man arrived with a big key. What we could not do, the keeper of the keys did in a few seconds. Yes, Christ is the One with authority to open and to close; to save and to judge. He holds the master key; all doors open, all doors close by His authority.
For Jesus, there are no closed doors. He can bring people to Himself even in closed countries. There is no room in the universe where Jesus Christ is excluded. There is no square inch on Planet Earth where Jesus Christ cannot come if He wills to do it.
Jesus is the Keeper of the keys. He is also the nail that is strong enough to hold all of His treasures.
PRAYER
Father, thank you for Jesus; help me to rest my life on Him for He is mighty in strength.REFLECTION QUESTIONS
If there is "no square inch" where Jesus is excluded, which area of your life do you struggle to believe is truly under His control?
In the story of the castle door, the man with the key did what human effort could not. What "impossible" door are you waiting for the Lord to open right now?
