Your Family: Root, Stem, And Branches
Unresolved issues can be deep, damaging, and sometimes evil.
Unresolved issues can be deep, damaging, and sometimes evil.
Historically, Christians have proven contentious and confrontational concerning depicting Jesus in any form. Even since the flashpoints of iconoclasm (image/symbol breaking) during the early Middle Ages and the Reformation, the issue has never been completely without debate. We must approach this with an open mind and a respectable degree of tolerance. Let’s begin by discussing the nature of idolatry in the Scriptures, and why it was consistently condemned. Let us examine Exodus 20:3-5. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above … Read More >
Within in the church, and throughout broader society, a great deal of mysticism and superstition surrounds the reality, ability, and work of demons. Because of this haze of opinions, we must root our understanding in Scripture. The Demonic Narrative Satan is the origin of evil, the father of lies (John 8:44). Satan and his angels apparently still have access to heaven because during the tribulation period, there will be a war in heaven and they will be cast out unto the earth (Revelation 12:7-9). Though crushed by the work of Christ two thousand years ago … Read More >
Dr. H.A. Ironside’s Final Sermon as Senior Pastor of The Moody Church Preached on the Night of His Farewell Sunday, October 31, 1948 The first book of Kings, chapter 18, verse 21: “And Elijah came unto all the people and said, ‘How long halt ye between two opinions? You remember that the people of Israel to whom God had given such a wonderful … Read More >
God doesn’t care much about buildings and temples; He cares about the human heart.
Only Jehovah can ignite wet wood! Today, we toured the summit of Mount Carmel where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal and proved that pagan gods where no match for Jehovah! Elijah challenged them to a duel: let’s see whose god can ignite a fire! So the false prophets called on their god, shouting and cutting themselves to show their desperation. Elijah mocked them, saying that maybe their god is on a journey or maybe he is using the bathroom (I Kings 18:27)! After they were exhausted, Elijah asked that water be poured on the altar to make … Read More >
Your development as a Christian can be measured by how long it takes between sinning and confessing of that sin.
Throughout the world, many have described personal visions and near-death experiences, including conversations with Jesus, meetings with deceased loved ones, and even tours of heaven or hell. Such experiences are possible, but subject to deception and wishful delusions. God did utilize visions in the Old Testament (Genesis 46:2; Numbers 12:6, 24:16; Psalm 89:19; Daniel 7:1-15; Isaiah 6:1-8), and the New Testament is abundant with examples as well (Acts 11:5, 16:9, 18:9; 2 Corinthians 12:1-4). The prophet Joel even speaks of the expanding frequency of visions in relation to the … Read More >
“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”—1 Kings 3:9 At the beginning of his long reign, God gave Solomon an invitation to ask for whatever he wanted. “Ask what I shall give you,” the Lord told him. Solomon prayed for the gift of wisdom—the gift of discernment or the ability to make the best choice when confronted with a number of options. God commended Solomon for not asking for a long life, nor riches … Read More >
