Miracle of Adoption

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

D.L. MOODY
By receiving Him, you get power, and not otherwise. Many persons have tried to be Christians and have failed. A man may as well try to jump over the ocean to Europe as to try to serve God before he is born of God. He has not the power. But when he receives Christ, Christ is the power of God unto salvation. We take Him: and He is our salvation.

ERWIN LUTZER
What Moody wrote is true, of course. But we also have to recognize that from the earliest days of the church, there have been those who have claimed supernatural power quite apart from God. In Acts 8, we are introduced to Simon the magician who amazed people with his miraculous wonders. Later, when he saw the gifts of the Holy Spirit, he thought he could purchase them for money, using them to enhance his powers. In effect he said, “Peter and Paul, give me a course in miracles so I can do what you can do.” They basically replied, “Be condemned along with your money. Your heart is not right with God.” True miracles come from God; fake miracles come from Satan.
It is the power of Jesus that gives us unique, resurrection life. Faith in Christ makes us children of God and saves us from our sin. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). That is the true miracle; it is the power of God to transform a human heart, change our desires, and give us the assurance of eternal life.

PRAYER
Father, thank you for making me a new creation; thank you for doing what only you can do in me, a sinner.
