Peace Purchased by the Cross

Making peace by the blood of his cross. Colossians 1:20

D.L. MOODY
A great many people are trying to make their peace with God, but that has already been done. God has not left it for us to do; all that we have to do is to enter into it, to accept it. It is a condition, and instead of our trying to make peace and to work for peace, we should cease all that and simply enter into peace that has been purchased for us.

ERWIN LUTZER
Sin makes us enemies of God, and because we’re born sinners, we are, by nature, enemies of God. We are not only separated from God, we’re even separated from ourselves. Jesus has made peace for us by the blood of His cross. And as Paul explains, now that we are justified by faith, “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand” (Romans 5:1–2). Only Jesus can make peace between us and a holy God. And once we have peace with God, we can have peace with others and peace with ourselves. Peace is not always dry-eyed. It’s sometimes mingled with tears when we experience the tragedies of life. It’s not a state of tranquility where we deny everything going on around us and just pretend all is well. It is a peace that is compatible with a funeral. It’s a peace that’s compatible with the tears and heartache of a broken marriage. It is a peace that trusts and knows God will work out all things for the good of those who love Him.

PRAYER
Father, may I see you as the God of peace and share that peace with others through faith in Jesus.
