Cradled in Love

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38–39

D.L. MOODY
There can be no true peace, there can be no true hope, there can be no true comfort, where there is uncertainty. I am not fit for God’s service, I cannot go out and work for God if I am in doubt about my own salvation.

ERWIN LUTZER
There are some people who say you can lose your salvation. You can come to saving faith in Christ, you can be sealed with the Holy Spirit of God, and then, because of backsliding and rebellion, you lose your status with God—and if you died, you’d be lost. Can you imagine if we lost our salvation every time we sinned?
What kind of a shepherd loses sheep? Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27–28).
Somebody says, “Oh yes, but we can snatch ourselves out of His hand.” But we are not only in His hand, we are a part of His hand, members of His body. And we have this assurance, “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (John 10:29). The hands of the Son and the hands of the Father are in harmony with each other.

PRAYER
Father, thank you that I am held in hands that are much stronger than I am.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
After all that God has done (loved us, saved, us, justified us and sanctified us) how could we walk away from His Hand?

What doubts make you question your salvation? What does Scripture say about these thoughts?
