He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
D.L. MOODY
There are no tears in heaven, and there would be few on Earth if the will of God was only done.
ERWIN LUTZER
And the reason there are no tears in heaven is because Jesus was born in Bethlehem to redeem us. Today, on this Christmas Eve, we remind ourselves, “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). Jesus left glory for Earth, died, rose again, and returned to heaven—this same Jesus will guide us safely to eternity. And there will be no more tears.
Let’s look more carefully at Jesus: “The Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd…and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 7:17). The Greek word for from can actually mean out of. We could read it, “God shall wipe away all tears out of their eyes.” It’s as if God is going to get to the very heart of our sorrow, the very source of our regrets, failures, and deep disappointments. There will be no mourning, no crying, and no fear for the former things are passed away—gone forever.
As of this writing, Joni Eareckson Tada has been in a wheelchair for over 50 years, living in constant pain, but what she looks forward to most about eternity isn’t just getting rid of her handicap or constant distress—it’s being in God’s presence without sin ever coming between. So, in this Christmas season, let’s look beyond the manger to the destiny of all believers. The tears of Bethlehem will be wiped away
forever in the streets of the New Jerusalem.
