The Menace Of Evolution

(An address given at the Second World Conference on Christian Fundamentals, May 20, 1920. Not revised by author). “God said.” —Genesis 1:3 “Yea, hath God said?” —Genesis 3:1 “In the midst of the throne…stood a Lamb as it had been slain.” —Revelation 5:6 The first verse of Genesis reads like a perfect order, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” There is no nebulosity about that. The heaven and the earth were clearly understood, and God made both of them perfect. The earth became without form and void. Dr. Anstey, in his fascinating book, “The Romance of … Read More >

The Demise Of Religious Freedom In America

Before I speak about the ominous trends in America to curtail freedom of speech, let me tell you about Dr. Charles H. McVety, president of Canada Christian College in Toronto, whose television program was removed from the air because he had the temerity to preach against homosexuality. Later, he was allowed back on television, but now he has to submit his program to the Canadian Broadcast Standard Council every Wednesday for review by the censors on Thursday, and then, if approved, can be broadcast on Sunday. As far as I know this panel does not rule on programs that are … Read More >

What Went Missing In The Passion Play?

Political correctness is destroying both Europe and America! In 2000, my wife Rebecca and I had the privilege of enjoying the Passion Play in Germany. Recently we returned for this summer’s repeat performance. The Passion Play has been performed in Oberammergau since 1633, when the residents promised to put on a play about Jesus every 10 years if God would rid them of the plague. The plague ended, and their promise has been kept. Today the famous play attracts visitors from all over the world. But there is a problem. The directors of the play have bowed to political correctness … Read More >

Confronting Dangerous Cultural Myths

When I wrote the book Hitler’s Cross, I explained some of the “cultural myths” that fed into the Nazi agenda and thus made Hitler’s Germany possible. These cultural myths are fueled by propaganda that pushes a culture in a destructive direction. In Hitler’s time there were several powerful cultural myths, including that the Jews were sub-human, that whatever was good for Germany was good for Christianity, and that obedience to the state transcends individual conscience, among others. Eric Hoffer said that, “propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves.” The further we drift from God as … Read More >

A Forgotten God

For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities; but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.”—Hosea 8:14 Hosea 8:14 is the voice of Jehovah speaking to His people and ringing down through the centuries to each of us. I believe that what I have to say, in the name of the Lord, has something for everyone of us. I have lived for over four years in this country now—a very short time compared with most of you—yet long enough to feel its pulse, to love … Read More >

Sliding Into Darkness

What Europe has to Teach Us In May 2009, it was my privilege to be in Hungary with the European Leadership Forum, an organization dedicated to strengthening the Gospel witness in Europe. Evangelical scholars from various disciplines gathered to teach and train about 400 church leaders how to live out their faith in a secular world. I also taught a few seminars, but I benefited from those days much more than I contributed. You must understand that Europe is very secular, very self-assured, and, for the most part, very opposed to the Gospel. These countries that have been influenced by … Read More >

Away With The Manger

As we approach Christmas, liberal attorneys (such as in the ACLU) will be on the alert in public schools and buildings to make sure that there is no sign of Jesus to be found. Although the word Christmas might still be used, its meaning cannot be explained, nor can its events be recounted. Imagine students in school being told that they can celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday, but must do so without mentioning his name, talking about his achievements or displaying a picture of him! Even worse, liberal churchmen have been teaching for decades that it is not necessary … Read More >
