Laughing

There was a fist fight down street the other day, and it all came because one man laughed at another. He had previously cursed him to his face with no seeming effect, but shortly he laughed at him, laughed out loud, and the fight was on.
This is the most acid-tipped sword one man can use against another. This goes to his very vitals, hits the foundation of his very being, namely, his own opinion of himself. It gets right under the roots of self-esteem and cuts the vein where pride must come leaking out, and pride is the backbone of more of our actions than we are willing to admit. Correction we may take, but, oh! if they laugh the fur must fly. The swagger of the bully can be reached with this weapon, and militarism’s swagger can be reached by it, if the right people do this laughing, and the right people are going to do it too, for God promises to do the laughing.
Yes, the strut and pomp of militarism must be struck at its proud and boasting heart. We have used argument and pleading. It is time to laugh in derision at the whole program. Yes, God is going to laugh, and then the big fight will be on. Whose program is to be followed, man’s or God’s ? The nations have swaggered heedlessly on, bullying their way with might, thinking there was never to be a reckoning. But nations are to be judged as well as individuals. Nations laugh at God’s part in their affairs as if the rules of Christ were too soft to be practical.
Business used to think this way. Business thought the rule of grab and might would work, but those rules have been beaten out by the law of service, and fine service at that. We pay high and willingly for service. Nations will have to come to the law of service, but they will never do it until the law of might is laughed at from heaven, and the judgment of God strikes them. God will laugh come day at all this swagger of might.
Hear God’s own words: “The kings of the earth set themselves together, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and His Anointed. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall have them in derision. Then He shall speak unto them in His wrath and vex them in His sore displeasure.”
It will be an awful day when God laughs. Let me go ahead in their funmaking at Christ, God’s Anointed, at His supernatural birth, His precious blood spilt for sin, His resurrection and promise to come back again and rule the nations with a rod of iron; but God will have them in derision. They are counting Christ out in many of the high places learning, counting Him a common man as other men, when God says that He is the Father’s Anointed.
Well, what’s the answer? Oh! “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh.”
