Does God Have A Primary Attribute?

God’s attributes are numerous, inlcuding omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience and many others (1 John 4:16; 1 Peter 1:16; Psalm 146:7). While we do not adamantly hold to a particular attribute as God’s greatest attribute, we do acknowledge that the acts and decrees of God always revolve around His glory, primarily cultivated through His loving relationship with the elect who have been chosen to participate in the plan of redemption (Isaiah 42:8). Properly understood, His essential nature is one of holiness and impeccable love and justice, and as such, He always acts for the highest good, which is … Read More >

God's Overruling Providence

Several Sundays have gone by since I last spoke to you on Paul’s experiences in the book of Acts, and of course I realize that there are numbers here this morning who were not with us at the former times when we considered this entire book from chapter one down to verse 11 of chapter 23. But we shall go right on from that point where we left off on the last occasion that we were speaking from this book, and trust that even though many have not followed us in the previous studies, there will be some special lesson … Read More >

Christ, The Wisdom Of God

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that … Read More >

Come And Rest

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”—Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus spoke those words in the crowded marketplace of Capernaum nearly 20 centuries ago. But He could just as well have spoken them at Broadway and 42nd in New York, or 5th and Vine in Cincinnati, or State and Madison in Chicago. No matter … Read More >

Jehovah-Jireh

And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh; as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen. “And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time. “And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord; for because thou hast done this thing … Read More >

A Prayer To Renounce Fear

I reject the fear of the future, for I believe that the future is in Your hands. I reject the fear of evildoers, for Your Word says, “Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident…For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will lift me high upon a rock.” I renounce the fear of rejection, for David wrote in Your holy Word, “For my father and mother have forsaken me … Read More >

The Gospel Of The Grace Of God

An address by Dr. Herbert W. Bieber at The Moody Church during the first week of the opening of the new church building in 1925. I have with a great deal of thought chosen my subjects for these three nights. I suppose you believe with me that there are favorite sugar sticks that we Bible teachers like to suck, but I want to bring you messages from the Word of God which I believe would be helpful. My own desire is that in this magnificent church there shall never anything be preached but the gospel of the grace of God … Read More >

Clouds Big With Blessing

Former Senior Pastor of The Moody Church, Rev. P.W. Philpot’s sermon preached on Sunday morning, January 23, 1949. When I think of all these young people that were little wee ones when I held some of them in my arms, and I kissed all the girls too that I carried in my arms; Yes, there are some that are married and then we see their children here, and then some of the young fellows at that time are now without any hair and those who have, have got pretty white hair, I begin to think I am getting … Read More >

Mr. Rader’s Anniversary Sermon

About a year ago at this time I was choked with emotion, and now I am choked again. I never will forget the night as long as I live, when I walked into the lecture room of The Moody Church and saw the dear friends gathered there who had elected me pastor of The Moody Church. Nobody on earth was so much surprised as I was. I could not believe it; I could not see how God could take a man who had been what I had been, and allow him to be the pastor of such a Church. But … Read More >

God's Writ Against The World

There is one major controversy between God and mankind. This is just one supreme issue which confronts every one of us. It is brought out into sharp focus in John 3:19: “This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” The issue for which God holds every man and woman responsible is that the One Who came into the world, claiming to be, and proving, indeed, that He was the light of the world, has been rejected. The Revised Version translates the first phrase … Read More >
