Power In The Word Of God

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” —Matthew 4:4
Have you ever thought there was any strength in the words that proceeded out of the mouth of God? I thank God there came a day in my life when I began to see that I could live on the promises, that God’s Word was all that was necessary. In my little room, I began to ask, “Where did this world come from anyhow?” I knew science, but I found this little phrase in the Bible, “In whom all things consist”—that is, in Jesus all things hold together.
No scientist on Earth knows why things hold together. Any scientist will tell you every atom in this table is shaking, moving. Every atom in a piece of steel is separate, and if you strike it a certain sound will tell you what the motion of the atoms is. If you stretch it and tighten it you increase its motion, but it holds together. What keeps each particle just close enough to the next? “In Him all things consist.”
Suppose they move apart? Who brought them together in the first place? There isn’t a scientist on Earth who does not believe that the earth had a starting time. Did it start with material? It certainly did not, because Paul says, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” How did it start? All a scientist can say is, “Well, I know it did.” How did it get together? By the Word of God.
There isn’t anything as scientific nor as magnificent as the Word of God. If President Wilson speaks, things will move. If the law speaks, things will shut up in the city. If the law had allowed the saloons to be open in the city yesterday, you would have seen every little jim-cart and wheelbarrow filled with bottles trying to pack them away in the cellars, and there would have been murders by the hundred, all because of a word. The Word of God started the world and everything depends upon the Word of God.
There in my little room, I said, “Here I am fighting my doubts and a thousand and one things; but I am going to believe the Word of God if ever a man believed anything, and I am going to start now to live on it and prove by my life, if God will let me, that a man can live on the Word of God, that God’s promise is worth stepping on.”
Jesus will establish the life that obeys and follows God according to His Word. I do not know how much you read the Bible or what it means to you in the way of strength and dynamic, but the man who trusts the Word of God will have a blessed life.
