A young Frenchman by the name of John Calvin came to faith, turning away from Catholicism. Defending Protestantism, he wielded his genius by penning the Institutes of the Christian Religion. While some may bristle at some of his teachings concerning the church and baptism, his doctrine of salvation still prevails, as Calvin lifted high the sovereignty and magnificence of God.
